EIA Lifts Gasoline Price Forecasts for 2022, 2023
In its monthly Short Term Energy Outlook, the EIA lifts its forecasts for average nationwide gasoline prices for 2022 and 2023, saying it now sees 2022 pump prices averaging $4.07 a gallon compared to a $4.05 forecast last month, and sees 2023 prices at $3.59 vs $3.57 in its month-ago outlook. The increases may seem out of whack since gas prices have dropped sharply over the past eight weeks. But the EIA is still catching up to its low forecasts at the start of the year that didn't anticipate the record-setting price surge in April, May and early June that pushed gas prices to an all-time high of $5.02 a gallon on June 14.
